A masterpiece of Kuchi jewellery made by an oustanding silversmith. This torc shows a most refined filigree silver work. It is further ornated with glass cabochons and a dense and complex decoration of motifs.
I learned the way to wear a torq from a vintage jewelry exhibitor and found it just so amusing.The torq is a sturdy piece of jewelry.
To wear a torc necklace, gently twist the ends in opposite directions to make the back opening just large enough to slip your neck through.
Once worn, i have never felt it resting heavy on my neck.It is like any other statement necklace.
I am amazed how,without having any closure.latch,ties or buttons..this piece of jewelry can fit perfectly on your neck.
The Kuchi people, from the Persian -koch- meaning migration, are Afghan pastoons nomads divided in a number of tribes that inhabit areas of Afghanistan and, to a lesser extent, Pakistan. Mid- to late XIXth century.
SIZE: Dimensions are approximate. Neck opening 2 3/4", torc 7 1/2" diameter x 1 3/4" wide. Thin metal torc is fairly flexible and will bend at the neck opening to fit.
